Additional team and channel-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Hi Lauener,
I hope you have a nice day.
I know many of you have been waiting a long time for Microsoft Whiteboards to be stored directly in Teams channels. I am therefore pleased to share that Microsoft has officially announced this improvement in Message Center post MC1253753.
For your informtion that you can concern: Message center - Microsoft 365 admin center or MC1253753 - Whiteboards created in Teams channels will now be stored in SharePoint | Microsoft 365 …
This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.
According to the announcement, whiteboards created from a Teams channel tab will no longer be saved in the creator's personal OneDrive. Instead, they will be stored in the channel's SharePoint site, which means that all channel members will have access based on the channel's permissions. As a result, the sharing and access problems many of you have experienced should be resolved. Furthermore, all existing compliance and security policies will continue to apply.
In terms of timing, Microsoft will begin the rollout in late September 2026. Since the change is enabled by default, no action is required on our side. However, because rollouts happen gradually, it may take some time before the feature becomes available in our environment.
Please also note that this change applies only to newly created whiteboards. Consequently, boards created before the update will most likely remain in their creators' OneDrive, so you may wish to recreate any important boards in the channel once the feature is available.
Thank you for your patience and for continuing to share your feedback. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you again for your time and for bringing attention to this important usability concern.
Kind regards.
