Using older versions of Outlook for Mac for personal email and calendar
Hello Mary Susan Haynes,
The Add Account button may stay grayed out when Outlook does not recognize one of the required fields, or when the current Outlook version or profile is not processing the account details correctly.
Please try the options below and check whether the issue continues:
- Delete and re-enter the email address, username, password, and server names manually. Check carefully for spaces before or after any entry. Also confirm the IMAP/POP and SMTP settings with your email provider.
- Quit Outlook completely, restart the Mac, then open Outlook and try adding the account through Tools > Accounts > + > Add an Account.
- Update Outlook from Help > Check for Updates, install any available updates, and restart Outlook.
- If Legacy Outlook still shows the button as unavailable, switch to the newer Outlook experience and try adding the account there. Accounts added in new Outlook do not automatically appear in Legacy Outlook.
If the button remains grayed out, please let me know which email provider you use, such as Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud, and your Outlook version so we can look into this further.
