Subject: .NET iOS Support for Xcode 27 – Expected Release Timeline

Hi,

I recently updated Xcode to the latest version, Xcode 27. However, the current .NET iOS workload does not appear to support it yet.

While building my project, I received the following error:

“This version of .NET for iOS (26.5.10318) requires Xcode 26.6. The current version of Xcode is 27.0. Either install Xcode 26.6, or use a different version of .NET for iOS.”

I would like to know:

Is there an expected timeline for when .NET for iOS will support Xcode 27?

Is there currently a preview/nightly version of the .NET iOS workload that supports Xcode 27?

If available, what is the recommended approach for continuing development with Xcode 27 in the meantime?

Environment:

.NET SDK: 10.0.401

.NET iOS workload: 26.5.10318

Xcode: 27.0

Development environment: JetBrains Rider

OS: macOS

Any guidance or information about the planned support timeline would be appreciated.

Thank you.

There is no published support timeline for Xcode 27 in the provided documentation.

    What is documented is:

    1. Each .NET for iOS workload requires a specific Xcode version.
    2. The exact supported Xcode version for each release is listed in the .NET for iOS/macOS release notes.
    3. When Apple releases a new Xcode version, there is typically a gap before .NET workloads add support for it.
    4. During that gap, the recommended approach is to install multiple versions of Xcode and select the version that matches the installed workload.

For the current situation, the supported path is:

    1. Install Xcode 26.6 alongside Xcode 27.
    2. Select the matching Xcode version for the active .NET iOS workload.
    3. Keep checking the .NET for iOS/macOS release notes for a workload release that adds Xcode 27 support.

To install and switch between Xcode versions:

    1. Download the required Xcode version from the Apple Developer Downloads site.
    2. Extract the .xip.
    3. Rename the app before opening it, for example Xcode_26_6.app.
    4. Move it to /Applications/.
    5. Switch the active version with:
    sudo xcode-select --switch /Applications/Xcode_26_6.app

    Important:

    • Renaming Xcode after opening it can cause problems.
    • ~/Library/Preferences/Xamarin/Settings.plist can override the Xcode selection made in Xcode or with xcode-select. Deleting that file is recommended to avoid confusion.
    • Disabling automatic updates in the App Store on macOS is recommended so Xcode is not changed unexpectedly.

The provided context does not document any preview or nightly .NET iOS workload with Xcode 27 support.
