Subject: .NET iOS Support for Xcode 27 – Expected Release Timeline

Hi,

I recently updated Xcode to the latest version, Xcode 27. However, the current .NET iOS workload does not appear to support it yet.

While building my project, I received the following error:

“This version of .NET for iOS (26.5.10318) requires Xcode 26.6. The current version of Xcode is 27.0. Either install Xcode 26.6, or use a different version of .NET for iOS.”

I would like to know:

Is there an expected timeline for when .NET for iOS will support Xcode 27?

Is there currently a preview/nightly version of the .NET iOS workload that supports Xcode 27?

If available, what is the recommended approach for continuing development with Xcode 27 in the meantime?

Environment:

.NET SDK: 10.0.401

.NET iOS workload: 26.5.10318

Xcode: 27.0

Development environment: JetBrains Rider

OS: macOS

Any guidance or information about the planned support timeline would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Another issue you will face upgrading to Xcode 27 are the required code changes to support iOS 27. Once rebuilt with Xcode 27, your application will most likely crash at launch on iOS 27. You need fix the breaking changes in the upgrade to iOS 27.

A known Maui issue is appdelegate is no longer supported:

    https://github.com/dotnet/maui/commit/49b62062536b4a2b957d965f76035eb56806615c

If you use any 3rd party nuget packages, you may need to wait for an update to support iOS 27.

note: building and releasing applications built with Xcode 26 is supported for several more months.

    Hi @Hirak Desai ,

Thank you for reaching out and for providing the details about your environment.

The current stable .NET 10 iOS workload 26.5.10318 requires Xcode 26.6. The available Xcode 27 preview workload, 27.0.10539-xcode27.0, was released specifically for Xcode 27.0 Beta 6, and its release notes state that Xcode 27.0 Beta 6 is required. Therefore, I would not consider this preview workload officially supported with the final Xcode 27.0 release.

Xcode 27 support is being t racked by the .NET for iOS/macOS team. However, I could not find a published release date for stable support for the final Xcode 27.0 release, so I would recommend following the official .NET for iOS/macOS releases and the Xcode 27 tracking issue for the latest updates rather than relying on a specific timeline.

If you need to continue using the current stable .NET 10 iOS workload, one option is to use a Mac environment that supports Xcode 26.6. Since your current macOS 27 environment does not support the Xcode 26.x series, this would require a compatible macOS environment.

I also looked into the macOS side of this scenario. Apple provides options for installing compatible previous versions of macOS, and also documents using more than one compatible macOS version on separate volumes. This can be useful if you want to explore an earlier compatible environment without immediately replacing your current macOS installation. Availability still depends on the specific Mac model, so I recommend checking Apple's official documentation and compatibility guidance before making any OS-level changes, and backing up your data first.

For now, I would avoid forcing the current stable workload to work with Xcode 27.0, or treating the Beta 6 preview workload as officially supported with Xcode 27.0 final.

If you found my response helpful or informative, I would greatly appreciate it if you could follow this guide for your confirmation.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the information.

I have one additional concern regarding the recommendation to install Xcode 26.6.

My development machine is already running macOS 27 (Golden Gate), and I have removed Xcode 26.6.

As I understand it, Xcode 26.6 requires macOS Tahoe 26.2 or later, while Xcode 26 does not run on macOS 27 (Golden Gate).

Therefore, installing Xcode 26.6 does not appear to be a viable option for my current environment.

    My current environment is:

    • macOS: 27 (Golden Gate)

    Xcode: 27.0

    .NET SDK: 10.0.401

    .NET iOS workload: 26.5.10318

    IDE: JetBrains Rider

    Project: .NET MAUI

The current workload gives me the following error:

“This version of .NET for iOS (26.5.10318) requires Xcode 26.6. The current version of Xcode is 27.0. Either install Xcode 26.6, or use a different version of .NET for iOS.”

I also noticed that the .NET for iOS releases contain a preview build for Xcode 27:

    .NET 10 – Xcode 27.0 Beta 6 support (27.0.10539-xcode27.0)

However, the release notes indicate that this build requires Xcode 27.0 Beta 6.

Since I am now using the final Xcode 27.0 on macOS 27 Golden Gate, could someone please clarify:

Is there a .NET 10 iOS workload that officially supports the final Xcode 27.0?

Can the 27.0.10539-xcode27.0 preview workload be used with the final Xcode 27.0?

If not, is there another preview/nightly workload that supports the final Xcode 27.0?

What is the recommended solution for developers who are already on macOS 27 Golden Gate, where Xcode 26.x cannot be used?

Is there an expected timeline for the stable .NET 10 iOS workload supporting Xcode 27.0?

I cannot simply switch back to Xcode 26.6 without also changing the macOS environment, so I would like to understand the supported migration path for developers who have already moved to macOS 27.

Any guidance from the .NET iOS/MAUI team would be greatly appreciated.Hi,

I would expect the November Maui 11 release to support the Xcode 27 and iOS 27. while you can normally install Xcode versions side by side, due to O/S changes Xcode 26 is not supported on golden gate. the official support is to erase the Mac and reinstall Tahoe, then Xcode 26 (though it should be in the backup restore).

Note: Last year support for 26 was added in October. until a new release of the Maui toolchain, there is no official support for golden gate or Xcode 27. you can try the Maui beta release and if GA version of Xcode is compatible, it may work. Microsoft did not get the GA release any sooner than you. They need to run their suite of tests and perform any fixes. they also need to get both Maui 10 & 11 to work with the GA. the Xcode 27 release also has to be sync'd with the other components/fixes release, so it could still be a while before a new release is actually available.
