Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi Eirwyn Davies,
I understand how inconvenient it is when the password is accepted elsewhere but new Outlook still returns only a general “Something has gone wrong” message.
Could you confirm whether this is a personal Outlook.com/Hotmail account or a Microsoft 365 work or school account? Also, does the error appear immediately after entering the password, or after completing any verification prompt? If possible, please share the exact error message or a screenshot with your email address and other personal information hidden.
In the meantime, please try repairing the new Outlook app:
- Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Outlook (new) and select Advanced options.
- Select Repair, then reopen Outlook and test the sign-in.
- If the issue remains, return to the same page and select Reset. You will need to add the account again afterward.
If Reset does not help, uninstall new Outlook, restart the computer, and reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.
For a work or school account, if the same account also cannot access its mailbox through the web, please contact your organization’s Microsoft 365 administrator so they can check the account, license, and sign-in status. Thank you so much for your understanding.
