I've been using windows without any license problems for 4 years. Now I received a notification 'your Windows license will expire soon'. Microsoft account-linked license doesn't work on my device and gives me the error in the title.

Do I actually have to purchase a windows license all of a sudden after four years of using officially activated Windows?

P.s I lost the original windows activation code.

Windows does not expire, that usually indicates there is a problem with the licence, it may be a volume licence version of Windows.

Where did you get your Windows licence was that pre-installed on the PC or did you purchase a full retail Windows licence from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer?

Or did a PC Repair Shop ever re-install Windows on your PC?

Click your Start Button, type cmd then right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Run or paste this command and hit Enter:

    slmgr.vbs /dlv

Please post a screenshot of the resulting dialog
