A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
For a personal Microsoft account, support cannot manually send reset links, send verification codes, or change account details.
The supported recovery path is:
- On the sign-in screen, select Use a different way to sign in or I don't have any of these if that option appears.
- If another verification method is listed, use it.
- If no listed phone or email can be accessed, complete the account recovery flow.
- If the account is temporarily blocked from verification attempts, stop repeated retries, try a different network, and wait. A block can clear after 24 hours, and in some cases longer.
- Use the Sign-in helper to identify the available recovery or support path.
- If the account is still locked, use Contact Microsoft Support from another account to reach support guidance. Support still cannot bypass verification or reset the account directly.
If the issue is specifically the Authenticator loop, check these basics on the phone before retrying:
- Make sure Microsoft Authenticator is unlocked.
- Make sure app notifications are enabled.
- Update to the latest Authenticator version.
- Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
- Verify the phone date and time are correct.
If this is a work or school account instead of a personal account, the organization’s IT admin or Help desk must clear the MFA settings so the account can be registered again on the new phone.
