I use an HP Pavillion Laptop 16, GTx 1660 TI and i5-10300h

Hello, I recently updated my graphics card drivers as of 9/18/2026. I haven't updated my Nvidia drivers in 3-4 months at this point. There have been serious complaints about the bugginess and issues with the new Nvidia drivers. When I updated my Nvidia drivers, my nightlight stopped functioning normally. My nightlight doesn't turn on and off when I press the button to turn it on/off, in both the taskbar and the normal display settings. Furthermore, when click turn off nightlight in taskbar, the nightlight that is in the display settings still is turned on. I tried uninstalling my intel graphics drivers as well as my graphics card drivers, even using ddu to roll back to an older version of the drivers, yet nothing seems to work. I use night light a lot to avoid eye strain especially at nightly work hours, so I would really appreciate advice/assistance.

    Hello

I do often see this, the latest version of driving causing issues. Go to NVDIA's official website, find the driver list for your specific GPU, install an older version instead, that typically can address this issue.

If you need assistance locating this, can you share with me two screenshots please?

    1. Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters, I would like to see what's listed.
    2. Please type msinfo32.exe in the search on the taskbar and hit enter, then share a screenshot of the pop up.

    Thanks!

Since the issue started immediately after the graphics driver update, focus on the display drivers first.

    1. Check whether Windows is using a fallback display driver.
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Display adapters.
      • If Microsoft Basic Display Adapter appears, the proper graphics driver is not installed correctly. Reinstall the graphics driver package for the exact HP Pavilion Laptop 16 model from the HP support page, then restart.
    2. Reinstall the OEM graphics drivers, not just the latest generic ones.
      • For Night light problems, the graphics driver controls the feature.
      • Install the graphics drivers provided for the laptop model by the PC manufacturer first, because those are the most compatible for the system.
      • After reinstalling, restart and test Night light again from both:
        • Start > Settings > System > Display
        • the Quick Settings/taskbar toggle
    3. If the Night light toggle is grayed out or still does not respond, update the display driver again through Windows.
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Display > Night light settings.
      • If the toggle is grayed out, update the display driver.
      • Or use Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Driver > Update Driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
    4. Verify Night light settings directly.
      • Open Start > Settings > System > Display > Night light settings.
      • Turn Schedule night light off temporarily.
      • Move the Strength slider and confirm whether the screen color changes and stays applied.
    5. If the problem began after a recent driver update, roll back the display driver.
      • In Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Driver, select Roll Back Driver if available.
      • This is appropriate when the issue started right after the update.
    6. If rollback is unavailable or ineffective, uninstall and reinstall the display driver.
      • In Device Manager, right-click the affected display adapter and select Uninstall.
      • Then right-click the PC name at the top of Device Manager and select Scan for hardware changes.
      • Confirm on the device General tab whether it reports: This device is working properly.
      • Caution: uninstalling display drivers can temporarily reduce resolution or switch to a basic display driver until reinstall completes.
    7. If Night light still turns off immediately after enabling it, toggle HDR off and back on once, then test Night light again.
      • This has been reported to restore Night light behavior in some cases after updates.
    8. If the laptop is using DisplayLink or Basic Display drivers, Night light is not available.

Given the HP laptop and the fact that DDU and rollback were already tried, the strongest next step is to install the HP-provided Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers for that exact model, restart, and then test Night light before applying any newer NVIDIA package.
