Start with the Microsoft Sign-in Helper for hacked or blocked accounts. It can guide the recovery steps and may offer the chance to talk to an agent: Start
Before changing anything, scan the PC for malware:
- Open Windows Security.
- Go to Virus and threat protection.
- Select Scan options > Full scan > Scan now. This is important before changing the password.
If sign-in is still possible, immediately change the password from the account security page. If sign-in is not possible, use password reset:
- On the sign-in page, select Forgot password?
- Enter the account username and select Next.
- Choose where to receive the verification code.
- Enter the code.
- Set a new password.
If the attacker changed the security info or the verification options are no longer recognized, use the sign-in helper tool instead of the normal reset flow.
After access is restored, review account settings that are commonly changed after a compromise:
- connected accounts
- forwarding
- automatic replies
If an unusual sign-in alert was received and access is still available, go to Security basics and select Review activity. For activity that was not recognized, use This wasn't me or Secure your account, then change the password.
If the account becomes temporarily blocked because of unusual sign-in activity, use the Outlook.com Sign-in Helper to unblock it.
If the password reset fails or the account cannot be found with the original sign-in details, use the Microsoft account recovery path or contact support from the account help pages.
