Try these workarounds first:
- Check whether this is text prediction behavior in OneNote.
- If suggested text appears while typing and then changes when accepted, turn it off in File > Options > Advanced.
- Clear Show text suggestions while typing.
- In OneNote, suggested text can be accepted with Tab or the Right-arrow key, and ignored by continuing to type.
- Check whether overtype mode is causing typed text to replace existing text.
- Go to File > Options > Advanced.
- Under Editing options, clear both:
- Use the Insert key to control overtype mode
- Use overtype mode
- This is relevant when text at the insertion point is deleted as typing continues.
- If OneNote unexpectedly closes while typing or during authoring tasks, verify whether the app is affected by the known Microsoft 365 issue.
- This issue was reported for OneNote for Microsoft 365 after updating to Version 2407 Build 17830.20138 or higher.
- Affected apps can close during typing, spell check, or other authoring actions.
- If the problem continues, use the built-in support paths for OneNote for Windows:
- Use Contact Us at the bottom of the support page if there is a Microsoft 365 for home subscription or a one-time Office 2016 purchase.
- Use the community forums listed on the support page.
- In Office 2016 on Windows 10, feedback can be sent from an Office app through File > Feedback.
The supported workarounds in the available guidance are turning off text suggestions and turning off overtype mode. The specific nested-table formatting behavior described is not covered in the available guidance.
