Text appears to change font and/or vanishes in OneNote release since 15 Sep 2026

I am using OneNote internal tables and at times I have a nested table. I start typing and I no longer see the text being typed. When I stop typing the text appears in a grey background. I then press Enter and the text I have typed in turns into bold text. The previous paragraph also turns in to bold text and in certain circumstaces the text vanishes altogether.

In this mode OneNote can't be trusted and is unworkable and I am totally reliant on OneNote for my work.

I am looking for suggestions to overcome these issues until Microsoft can fix these problems. Any help or suggestion would be welcomed.

    This looks like a OneNote editing/rendering issue.

    As a workaround, please try turning off text predictions in OneNote: File > Options > Advanced > uncheck “Show text suggestions while typing.” Microsoft reference: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/onenote/text-predictions-in-onenote

    Hello Alan Medows,

    The combination of text disappearing while typing and paragraphs unexpectedly becoming bold does not seem to fit normal text prediction or Overtype behavior, so I would not want to assume those are the cause.

    Could you check File > Account > About OneNote and share the exact Version and Build shown there?

    Also, as a quick isolation test, could you create a completely new page, insert a new simple table, and see whether typing there shows the same behavior? This would help determine whether the issue follows the current OneNote build or is specific to the existing page/nested tables.

    If the issue also reproduces in a brand-new table, that would be useful information to include when reporting it through Help > Feedback in OneNote.
