Microsoft Entra ID Directory Object Quota Remains at 91%+ Despite Object Deletion

Hello Microsoft Support,

We are experiencing an issue with the Microsoft Entra ID directory object quota for our tenant.

Tenant Information

• Tenant Name: MSFT
• Tenant ID: 789c1735-9a1b-426b-a695-9821dfe6bce7

Issue Summary

The tenant is reporting:

• Used Quota: 45,806
• Total Quota: 50,000

which indicates approximately 91.6% utilization.

However, the current visible directory inventory contains only a small number of objects:

• Users: 2
• Groups: 7
• Devices: 1
• Applications: 1
• Service Principals: 176
• Deleted Users: 0
• Deleted Groups: 0

The total visible objects are only a few hundred, which does not reconcile with the reported quota consumption of 45,806 objects.Hello Microsoft Support,

Background

This tenant was previously used for Microsoft Entra ID load testing involving large-scale user creation and deletion operations. During testing, tens of thousands of users were created and subsequently removed.

We have verified that:

• There are currently no deleted users shown in the tenant.
• There are currently no deleted groups shown in the tenant.
• The active object counts are very low.
• The quota remains near the tenant limit.

Troubleshooting Performed

• Verified current object inventory.
• Verified deleted user count is zero.
• Verified deleted group count is zero.
• Attempted to retrieve additional quota information through Microsoft Graph PowerShell.
• Reviewed tenant inventory for active users, groups, applications, devices, and service principals.

Request

Please assist in investigating:

1. Whether the directory object quota accounting for this tenant is accurate.
2. Whether there are hidden, soft-deleted, or internal directory objects that are contributing to the reported quota usage.
3. Whether the quota calculation can be refreshed or recalculated.
4. Whether the tenant is eligible for a quota increase if the reported usage is valid.
5.
