Has the Microsoft 365 E5 Developer package just had its OneDrive storage adjusted from 1TB down to 10GB?

Has the Microsoft 365 E5 Developer plan recently had its OneDrive storage adjusted from 1TB down to 10GB?

I ask because some of my member accounts have suddenly been limited to 10GB; does this mean data exceeding that limit will be locked? When will it be deleted?
Thanks!

    Dear @Quang Toàn Nguyễn,

    I hope you’re having a good day.

    1. Regarding the 10 GB limit

According to the official Microsoft 365 Developer Program FAQ, the storage entitlement for a Microsoft 365 Developer Program sandbox currently includes:

    • 10 GB OneDrive storage per Developer SKU user
    • 300 GB pooled storage per developer-only tenant

Based on that documentation, a 10 GB OneDrive quota is currently the documented allocation for Developer Program users.

    2. Regarding existing data that exceeds 10 GB

The good news is that exceeding the quota does not mean data is deleted immediately.

According to Microsoft storage quotas, when a OneDrive account exceeds its storage allowance:

    • New uploads, edits, and synchronization may be blocked.
    • Existing files generally remain accessible initially.
    • If the account remains over quota for a prolonged period, OneDrive can eventually be frozen.
    • Microsoft may later apply data deletion policies if the over-quota condition persists.

For reference: Microsoft storage quotas | Microsoft Support

If some of your member accounts are already storing more than 10 GB, I would recommend treating the 10 GB limit as the effective quota for now and backing up or reducing storage usage as soon as possible.

The reason is that, while there is no indication that Microsoft immediately deletes over-quota data, the documented behavior does include sync restrictions, account freezing, and potential long-term retention enforcement. Protecting important data now is much safer than waiting to see how quota enforcement develops.

I hope this helps clarify the current situation and gives you some guidance on how best to protect the affected data.

    Warm regards,

Yes. For Microsoft 365 E5 Developer Program subscriptions, the documented OneDrive limit is 10 GB per user for Developer SKU users.

For the impact on existing data:

    1. If a user exceeds the OneDrive storage quota, new files cannot be uploaded, edited, or synced.
    2. Existing files remain available but become read-only.
    3. If the account remains over quota for three months, the OneDrive account is frozen.
    4. If it remains over quota for six months, Microsoft might delete the OneDrive and all files in it, and once deleted they are non-recoverable.

If some member accounts have suddenly dropped to 10 GB, that aligns with the current Developer Program FAQ storage expectation for Developer SKU users.
