Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
Dear @Hilary
I understand how frustrating it is to continue being charged for a subscription when you no longer remember which account was used to set it up.
The first step is to identify the Microsoft account associated with the subscription:
- Check your email inboxes for Microsoft billing emails, invoices, or subscription confirmations. Search for terms such as “Microsoft Teams Essentials,” “Microsoft subscription,” “invoice,” or “billing.” Microsoft recommends checking email accounts for purchase receipts when you have forgotten which account was used. Please refer to this document: Check products or services where you used your Microsoft account
- If you may have used your usual email address as the Microsoft account, try signing in at the Microsoft account page with that address. If Microsoft asks for a password, that address is associated with a Microsoft account. Please refer to this document: How to check if your email address is a Microsoft account
- If you still cannot identify the account, use Microsoft’s Forgotten Microsoft account username process. If you previously added a recovery phone number or email address, Microsoft can provide a masked hint of the account username.
Once you identify the account that owns the subscription, sign in to the Microsoft subscription management page and look for the Teams Essentials subscription. From there, you should be able to manage recurring billing or cancel the subscription, depending on how it was purchased. Please refer to this document: Cancel your Microsoft subscription
If you cannot access the account at all, I would recommend contacting Microsoft Support for billing/subscription assistance and providing the billing details from your credit-card statement (for example, the charge date, amount, and merchant description). Microsoft requires account verification before support can disclose or change account information, so they may not be able to identify the account solely from the card details.
One important point: simply removing Teams from your device or signing out will not cancel the subscription. The subscription itself needs to be cancelled through the account or the provider through which it was purchased.
