    Hi!

The entire download and installation process involves Windows Update. A failure in Windows Update is causing this error.

    • Third-party Softwares such Antivirus and VPN can cause this updates issue.
    • Uninstall or temporarily disable third-party software.

    Other solutions that may help:

    Windows Update Troubleshooting

    1. Open Windows Settings (WINDOWS + I keys) > Select "System" > "Troubleshooting".
    2. Under "Other troubleshooters", click "Windows Update Troubleshooting".
    3. After the error is complete, restart your computer and see if the problem is resolved.

    Delete Windows Update Temporary Files

    1. Type "'Command Prompt'" in the Search Bar > Right-click on the app > Select '''Run as administrator''.
    2. Now let's type the following commands. ATTENTION: Type the entire command on the first line > Press ENTER > Wait for the command to complete > Run the next command on the list.
    net stop wuauserv

    net stop bits

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop msiserver

    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    1. This will force the system to download new files > When finished, restart your computer and see if the problem is resolved.

    Hi JC,

I’m following up to see whether the previous steps helped or if you’re still seeing error 0x800F0806.

When you have a moment, could you please check a few details?

    • Are regular Windows updates downloading and installing normally?
    • Press Windows + R, type winver and share the Windows version and OS build shown.
    • Is this your personal computer or is it managed by a workplace or school?
    • Under Settings > System > About, does the Windows edition say Windows 11 Home Single Language?

If the error is still there, you could also try repairing the Windows system files. Open Command Prompt as administrator, then run these commands one at a time:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    sfc /scannow

Please let each command finish fully, then restart the computer and try adding Japanese again from Settings > Time & language > Language & region.

Feel free to skip anything you’ve already tried. When you reply, please include the results of both commands and the Windows details above, I’ll be happy to help with the next step.
