I have accidently typed in a wrong email address and now it continues to come up in my "To" suggestion drop down. It is not in the contact's information. How do I delete it from the suggestion drop down?

Where exactly are you seeing the incorrect address suggestion: Outlook.com in a web browser, the Outlook desktop app, or somewhere else?

When I do a New Mail, in the send "To" bar. I can't find it anywhere else. It's not in the contact's information. I'm using the desktop app.

It is coming from your account Suggested People/ Autocomplete. The only way to get rid of it is to clear the whole list.

Thank you for the link. I don't feel confident to do all of that but at least I know it's a problem that can't be fixed easily and I'll move on.

My instructions are for if you want to keep some of the emails from your Suggested People as contacts.

If you only want to clear the Suggested People it is only:

Logon to Outlook Web at https://outlook.cloud.microsoft/

Do: View -> View Settings -> General -> Privacy and data -> Suggested people -> Clear data and turn off

Wait 48 hours for the changes to take effect.

This article is the most recent guidance about this issue, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/support/known-issues/in-autocomplete-the-x-to-remove-individual-suggested-recipients-might-not-work-as-expected. In the article the Outlook Team acknowledges the issue and that they are working to improve it.

@Leah Mowery in my opinion I would ignore the bad entry for now. The Outlook Team is working on a solution. This feature is sub optimal and if you turn off and delete data it might make matters worse.

For example, this note below for the setting says it will delete addresses you contacted or that contacted you. It's not clear to me if the bad entry would be removed and all your good, suggested recipients could also be gone.

Clicking the "X" only removes it temporarily, let’s check if the suggestion is also stored online.

Please go to https://outlook.live.com/mail and sign in with the same account.

Then:

Click "New mail."
Start typing the person's name in the "To" field.
Check if the same incorrect email address appears there.

Does the wrong address appear in Outlook web too, or only in New Outlook on your desktop?

That sounds like an AutoComplete suggestion rather than an address saved in the contact. Outlook can remember addresses that were typed or used previously.

If you haven't tried anything yet, please try this:

Open "New Mail."
Start typing the name or incorrect email address in the "To" field.
When the wrong address appears, hover over it.
If an "X" appears beside it, click the "X" to remove it. You can also try highlighting the suggestion and pressing Delete.

Are you using New Outlook or Classic Outlook? The next steps are different if the suggestion does not give you the option to remove it.

Using New Outlook. Clicking the x at the end of the email address only temporarily removes it. Highlighting the suggestion does not give me the option to delete.

In new Outlook it appears the context of the X currently is to remove the recipient from the To bar. It does not delete the item from the Suggested Recipients list. This article is for classic Outlook but it's the best guidance there is currently, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/support/known-issues/in-autocomplete-the-x-to-remove-individual-suggested-recipients-might-not-work-as-expected. The Outlook Team removed the capability to delete items from Suggested Recipients. There has been a lot of feedback about this so I suspect they will eventually add it back.

Since this is important to you, please submit feedback about it (Help, Feedback). Tell them you want them to bring back Contact Masking or the ability to remove bad addresses from Suggested Recipients.
