we are facing issue in excel 2026, 2019 and 2021 copy 7 paste issue how to resolve

Hello, facing this issue in Excel Office 2016 right after the latest updates, so I decided to uninstall Office 2016 and replace with office 2019 and the issue persists. As I moved to Office 2019 I cannot uninstall KB5002914 because office 2016 has been removed but the effects of KB5002914 are still there.

Issues are:

-CUT & PASTE of the cell(s): works

-Copy & Paste of the cell(s): DOES NOT work

-After selecting a cell for Copy and Paste, the borders of the cell keep on blinking and ESC no longer works

-Copy and paste of the content of a cell works

Please advice.

According to the Microsoft support article, the paste issue has been documented as affecting Excel 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016. The article indicates that the issue is being investigated and will be updated when more information becomes available: Description of the security update for Excel 2016: September 08, 2026 (KB5002914)

Since uninstalling KB5002914 did not resolve the issue in your case, you may consider submitting feedback through Excel like I suggested and monitoring the support article for any further guidance or updates.

I am on MSOF 2024 LTSC Version: 16.0.17932, and I am experiencing all the above. I may add that pressing CTRL+D, it does not copy down. I've notice the only work around for me is to CTRL+C, then right click on the cell with the mosue and paste via Formula then it work. I've also notice that if you do CTRL+C, then press ESC right after, it cancels it out as it should, but if you do a CTRL+V after doing CTRL+C, it some how get glitch, cells remain in Dotted line (like waiting for cell to be paste) then its when pressing ESC wont work, you have to press CTRL+C then press ESC to clear that out.

The CTRL+X, CTRL+z, does not work for me.. Maybe because if the version I have.

this is very annoying since I do a lot of CTRL+D in my workbook.. :(

Hope this gets fixed soon...

we just go to the root folder where excel.exe is located and paste the file of working excel.exe, from another pc.

When will a full fix be implemented to allow us to use conditional formatting and copy paste.

This is a basic function that is used by my coworkers and myself 1000's of times a day and is causing a huge loss in productivity.

Maybe pause the AI research and get the basics working, just a thought.

Just to follow up -

Microsoft has released a corrective update.

For Excel 2016, KB5002665, released September 16, 2026, specifically fixes the known KB5002914 issue that caused certain paste operations to fail silently.

One caveat: Microsoft says paste operations may still fail in workbooks containing conditional formatting. So this is a confirmed fix for the original issue, but not yet a complete resolution of every paste failure scenario.

I would like to share an update regarding this issue.

Microsoft has released a new update specifically for Excel 2016, KB5002665. This update addresses the known issue in KB5002914 that caused certain paste operations in Excel 2016 to fail without displaying an error message.

You can review and download the update from the official Microsoft Support article below: September 16, 2026, update for Excel 2016 (KB5002665)

Please note that this update is intended for the MSI-based edition of Excel 2016. It does not apply to Click-to-Run editions of Office 2016.

There is also a remaining known issue where paste operations may continue to fail if the workbook contains conditional formatting. If this occurs, you can try using Paste Special and select one of the available options, such as Formulas, Values, or Link. Microsoft is continuing to investigate this issue and will update the support article when more information becomes available.

If possible, please install KB5002665 and check whether the paste issue is resolved.

The Excel 2016 update KB5002665 only addresses the known issue introduced by KB5002914, which caused certain paste operations to fail without displaying an error message. It does not mention resolving problems with opening older .xls files.

Since the issue you described is different, I suggest creating a new thread and providing details about what happens when you try to open the file, including any error message you receive.

Office LTSC 2024: fixed in Build 17932.21000 (Update via Excel Files > Accounts > Update Options > Update now)

Office LTSC 2021: fixed in Build 14334.20918

Office LTSC 2019: mitigated in Build 10417.20208, but Microsoft says paste can still fail in workbooks containing conditional formatting.

I was facing this same issue in Office 2019, build 16.0.10417.20207, it was patched to 16.0.10417.20208 and I'm still facing the same issue for multiple users but only for certain Excel files, anyone has any recommended fixes?

After uninstalling the update, it gets installed again automatically after 2–4 days. Does anyone have a solution for this issue? Has Microsoft released any patch or fix for this problem?

Fixes have been released some time ago already.

If you have 2016, KB5002665 can be installed to fix this issue
