Issue with Excel 2016 - copy and paste cells

Hi,

I have a issue on a PC where Microsoft Office 2016 is installed. From today, then I try to copy and a paste a cell, it doesn't work. If I try to copy text from Word to Excel, it works. So, the issue is linked only to copy a cell and paste it. I've already tried to run excel in safe mode, restart the PC, re-install Excel but nothing works.

Some advices?

I have the same issue. Repair was not working . I just uninstall office 2016 and reinstall it. It is working now. Hope this way can help you.

I have the same issue. Repair was not working . recently reported case specifically mentioned the issue beginning after KB5002914 installation, I am unable to uninstall this Excel update, Do anyone knows how to unintsall updates from Office, Even commands are not working to unistall the updates

Pepaire is not working, even i reinstalled after one day same issue. So please run this command to removed
that causing update :

Open cmd run as administrator and run the below command

caused by a known bug in the September 2026 security update KB5002914. [1, 2, 3]

Fix the Update Bug (KB5002914)

Open your Control Panel and go to Programs and Features.

Click on View installed updates.

Locate update KB5002914, right-click it, and select Uninstall.

Workaround/solution for the Office 2016 MSI VL ISO version some people may have if IT has setup their machines

If you have a Office 2016 that IT once setup and you have enough permission (Account) or have the Local Administrator password of the machine you will be able to fix this. This is not the normale end-user office 2016 version you buy at stores or the producers ship with your device when you buy it retail.

Until MS has a fix there is only the way of uninstall and blocking the further download and install after uninstall

Find you version language from the patch

Uninstall

Block the 5002914 from coming back

silent:

How to prevent/block KB5002914 from reinstalling so that the update will not come back:

Uninstall the Excel 2016 update with the command lines or our script

Reboot and wait until your computer sees it again from Windows Update

Run MS tool “wushowhide.cab” from the URL, open, choose “keep” in security warning

If the KB is not listed in the MS tool you did not uninstall it or did not check windows update online

Just to follow up -

Microsoft has released a corrective update.

For Excel 2016, KB5002665, released September 16, 2026, specifically fixes the known KB5002914 issue that caused certain paste operations to fail silently.

One caveat: Microsoft says paste operations may still fail in workbooks containing conditional formatting. So this is a confirmed fix for the original issue, but not yet a complete resolution of every paste failure scenario.
