We have the same situation on Office LTSC Standard 2021, and we can't downgrade with clicktorun.

Which specific update are you referring to? For example, the KB article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/servicing/office/hotfix/excel/5002914 discusses an update intended for classic MSI installations. Most recent Office installations are using click-to-run (virtualization) technology instead.

i remove that patch from users last 3 days but everyday patch going back again. when windows update off state, patch still apply every day. What i am suppose to do ?

I’m facing the same issue. Even after removing the patch, the same problem recurs the next day. How can I fix this?

That is a fair question. The KB article does say that the issue is being investigated, so I'm assuming that Microsoft intends to fix the issue. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/servicing/office/hotfix/excel/5002914 .

Just to follow up -

Microsoft has released a corrective update.

For Excel 2016, KB5002665, released September 16, 2026, specifically fixes the known KB5002914 issue that caused certain paste operations to fail silently.

One caveat: Microsoft says paste operations may still fail in workbooks containing conditional formatting. So this is a confirmed fix for the original issue, but not yet a complete resolution of every paste failure scenario.

For 32-bit version of Office 2016 on Windows 11, this worked for me.

& “C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE16\Oarpmany.exe” /removereleaseinpatch “{90160000-002A-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}” “{9C029E7A-4A4A-409D-B5C6-F40BAA71A090}” ‘1036’ “0”

If that doesn't work, regedit, search 5002914 and you'll find office GUID and patch GUID.

Plug them into this format and you'll be good to go:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE15\Oarpmany.exe" /removereleaseinpatch "{Office_GUID}" "{Patch_GUID}" "1033" "0"
