I am using a Surface Pro 11 with a Surface Dock 2 (Model 1917) and two MSI PRO MP251LDE E2 monitors.
Setup:
- Surface Pro 11, Windows 11
- Surface Dock 2, latest firmware
- 2 × MSI PRO MP251LDE E2, 1920 × 1080
- Both monitors connected to the two rear USB-C display outputs of the Dock
- 2 × identical UGREEN USB-C to HDMI cables, rated for 4K/60 Hz and 1440p/120 Hz
Problem: The external monitors do not wake reliably after boot, shutdown/restart or sleep/wake. The behavior is random: sometimes only the left monitor works, sometimes only the right one, sometimes both, sometimes neither. The monitors then show “HDMI No Signal”, although Windows often still detects both displays in Settings → System → Display.
Unplugging and reconnecting the Surface Connect cable often causes both monitors to start working immediately. Changing the refresh rate between 60 Hz and 120 Hz can also sometimes trigger the displays, but not reliably.
What I already tested:
- MSI Auto Scan enabled on both monitors
- 1920 × 1080 at both 60 Hz and 120 Hz
- Extend and Duplicate modes
- Landscape and Portrait orientations
- Complete power reset of the Surface Dock 2
- Surface Dock 2 firmware is up to date
- Cleared the Surface display cache using Microsoft’s “surface dock registry.reg” procedure and reconfigured all displays
- No lasting improvement
Important diagnostic result: If I disconnect the Surface Dock 2 completely and connect a monitor directly to the USB-C port of the Surface Pro 11 using the same UGREEN USB-C-to-HDMI cable, the monitor wakes reliably after sleep. The issue mainly appears when the monitors are connected through the Surface Dock 2.
This makes me suspect a Surface Dock 2 / Surface Pro 11 display handshake or wake/link-training problem rather than a defective monitor.
Has anyone experienced the same issue with Surface Pro 11 + Surface Dock 2?
