A download I am trying to for a printer times out on me and I want to increase the timeout times on my computer to keep it from timing out too soon.

    Welcome Michael Long,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft.

I understand how frustrating it can be when a download keeps timing out before it finishes

Before troubleshooting further, could you let us know:

    • Are you downloading the printer driver through a web browser, Windows Update, or the printer manufacturer's installer?
    • Which version of Windows are you using?

In the meantime, please try the following:

    • Press Windows + R, type cmd, then press Ctrl + Shift + Enter.
    • Run the following commands one at a time:
      • ipconfig /flushdns
      • netsh winsock reset
    • Restart your computer. Then test the download again.

    If the issue continues:

    • Press Windows + I > Network & Internet > Proxy
    • Turn off  Use a proxy server if it is enable
    • Retry the download

There is no general Windows setting that increases download timeout values for all applications. The solution depends on which program is timing out, so the information above will help determine the next steps.
