I'm unable to type into any cells in excel making it completely redundant. Tried various online suggestions but no good. Does anyone know what to do please?

I had the same issue with Excel version 16.111 on macOS Sequoia 15.7.4. I had to roll back to Excel version 16.110.3 to get it working again.
Thanks for sharing but it may be that your installation of Sequoia is in need of updating – 15.7.7 is the current release. Version 15.7.3 predates the Office 16,111 update.
Thanks for letting me know. I updated macOS to version 15.7.7, but Excel version 16.111 still does not work.
I'm now on Tahoe 26.5.2 on my mac. The recent update to this seemed to coincide with excel not working for me. I've tried reinstalling excel but no joy. Not sure what to do next.

@Russell Bignell simply reinstalling may not be enough.
Also make sure you reinstall correctly if your office was purchased from Apple you reinstall via App Store other you reinstall via Microsoft .
First, see if you can update your Office apps. Open Word for example, click on the 'Help' tab >Check for Updates. Make sure you choose Update All when prompted. Let the process run through, can take a bit time. See if that works.
Otherwise, use the Update method in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/support/known-issues/unknown-error-0x0-license-not-found-error-microsoft365-macos
If it still doesn't work, please uninstall the apps. Follow the instructions here for complete uninstall.
Then reinstall this way:
If you signed up via Apple App Store, then download and install from the App Store.
If you signed up via Microsoft directly, please go to https://www.office.com
Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on the 9-dot icon on the upper left > More apps.
Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.
If it still doesn't work, download the updater https://support.microsoft.com/office/office-for-mac/troubleshoot-microsoft-autoupdate-in-microsoft-365-and-office-for-mac
Please provide specific macOS & Office Version Numbers when submitting a questionAdditionally, include as much detail as possible, such as whether this is on a specific worksheet, in a specific workbook or whether all Excel files – including new blank ones – are affected: Have you tried restating the program?: Have you tried restarting the Mac? What other details can you provide?
You might first have a llok at the Review tab to see if worksheet Protection has been applied.
