Azure Managed Redis AllocationFailed – Request failed due to insufficient capacity

We have been deploying an Azure Managed Redis resource using the MemoryOptimized_M10 SKU in West US 2. Since roughly last week, the resource deployment has consistently started failing with an AllocationFailed – insufficient capacity error. We need help understanding whether we are hitting a capacity limit on our subscription/region, and if so, the process to get it increased.

We currently have only the following Azure Managed Redis instances running in West US 2:

2 × MemoryOptimized_M10 – Running
2 x Balanced_B3 instances – Running

Requests / questions

Is there a capacity limit for redis resource? If yes, what is the process to raise a request to increase it?

The AllocationFailed – insufficient capacity error typically indicates that the selected SKU currently cannot be provisioned in the target region due to temporary capacity constraints.

Could you please try deploying the Azure Managed Redis instance in an alternative region and let us know whether the deployment succeeds there? We have occasionally observed capacity-related provisioning constraints in specific regions.

As an alternative, you may also wait and retry the deployment after some time, as regional capacity availability can change.

If the issue persists across multiple regions, please let us know and we'll investigate further.

Unfortunately, deploying to an alternative region is not an option for us — due to specific requirement.

We have also already retried the deployment several times over last week or so in the same region, and the AllocationFailed – insufficient capacity error persists for SKU MemoryOptimized_M10.

It works fine with Balanced_B3, everything same just different sku, so that rules out of having any other issue. But since we need MemoryOptimized_M10, hence, reaching out for help.

Based on the error details, the deployment is currently being impacted by a regional capacity constraint for the underlying VM resources required by the MemoryOptimized_M10 SKU in West US 2. Azure attempted multiple supported VM sizes but encountered SkuNotAvailable due to capacity limitations.

Recommendations:

Retry the deployment after some time, as capacity constraints can be temporary and may be resolved when resources become available again.
Try an alternative SKU that meets your workload requirements.

Hi Sandeep Kumar,

Thx for sharing urs issue here at Q&A portal. AllocationFailed usually means regional capacity is not available for that Redis SKU at deployment time. It’s not always the same as a visible subscription quota. Since existing MemoryOptimized_M10 instances are running but new ones fail in West US 2, this looks like SKU/region capacity pressure for Azure Managed Redis, not a config issue. U can try another region or a smaller/different SKU as a quick test. If those work, that confirms the issue is specific to MemoryOptimized_M10 capacity in West US 2.

For quota & or capacity increase, open an Azure support request for Azure Managed Redis / capacity / quota and include region, SKU, number of instances requested, current running instances, UTC failure time, and full AllocationFailed error.
