Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Hi Gail Jones,
Hornblower409 has asked an important clarification, and I agree that knowing exactly where the wrong name appears will help narrow this down. I would also like to add a few checks that may help identify whether this is coming from your account profile, the Outlook mobile app, or a saved contact entry.
Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors here cannot access your mailbox or account settings. However, you can check the following:
- Sign in to your Microsoft account profile and confirm that your name is correct: Change your Microsoft account name. If you change it, allow some time for the new name to appear across Microsoft services.
- Check Outlook.com on a web browser, not only the mobile app. Send a test email to yourself and see whether the wrong name appears in the From field.
- On your phone, check whether the other person’s name is saved in your Contacts for your email address. Mobile apps can sometimes display the name from a local contact instead of the account profile.
- If the name appears only in the Outlook mobile app, remove and add the account again in the app after confirming the name is correct online.
Also, please reply with where you see the wrong name, for example the account list in the Outlook mobile app, the From field when sending email, the To field, or your phone’s contacts. If you share a screenshot, please make sure to hide any full email addresses or personal information.
