    Hi Ronald Sutherland,

If the Bluetooth switch is completely missing, Windows may not currently be detecting the Bluetooth adapter rather than Bluetooth simply being turned off.

Here are some additional checks that may help in this case:

    1. Open Device Manager and look for your Bluetooth adapter.
    2. If the adapter is listed, right-click it and select Uninstall device, then restart the PC. Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically after restart.
    3. Download and install the latest Bluetooth driver from your PC manufacturer's support website, then restart the device. Manufacturer-provided drivers can sometimes restore missing Bluetooth functionality when the generic driver is not loading correctly.

If the Bluetooth adapter does not appear anywhere in Device Manager, please share your PC make and model and a screenshot of Device Manager. That can help determine whether this is a driver issue or whether Windows is not currently detecting the Bluetooth hardware.

When the Bluetooth on/off button is missing or cannot be turned on, Windows usually is not detecting Bluetooth correctly. Use these steps depending on the situation.

    1. Confirm Bluetooth is actually available
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
      • If there is no Bluetooth section or toggle at all, either:
        • The PC does not have Bluetooth hardware, or
        • The Bluetooth driver is missing or not working.
    2. Check the Bluetooth icon in quick settings (Windows 11)
      • Select the Network, Sound, or Battery icon on the right side of the taskbar.
      • Look for the Bluetooth tile:
        • If present, select it to turn Bluetooth On.
        • If it is missing, it may need to be added to quick settings, or Bluetooth may not be detected. In that case, continue with the next steps.
    3. Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter (if available)
    4. Install or update Bluetooth drivers
If Bluetooth options are missing or grayed out, update the Bluetooth adapter driver:
      • Select Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Bluetooth.
      • Right‑click the Bluetooth adapter (may include the word “radio”) and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
      • Complete the wizard, then restart the PC: Start > Power > Restart.
      • After restart, check Settings > Bluetooth & devices again for the Bluetooth toggle.
    5. Check Airplane mode
      Airplane mode disables Bluetooth:
      • Press Windows + A to open quick settings.
      • Make sure Airplane mode is Off.
    6. Check for Windows Updates
Some Bluetooth drivers are delivered via Windows Update:
      • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update (or Update & Security > Windows Update on Windows 10).
      • Select Check for updates and install all available updates.
      • Restart the PC if prompted and then check Bluetooth again.
    7. Restart the PC
      • Go to Start > Power > Restart to clear temporary issues that can hide or disable the Bluetooth toggle.

If after these steps Bluetooth still does not appear in Settings or Device Manager (and there are no unknown devices), the PC may not have Bluetooth hardware or it may be a hardware fault.
