When you mention that you “can’t find it,” where have you already searched (for example: SharePoint search bar, Recent files in Word, OneDrive, or the Recycle Bin)? Did you receive a “not found” message, or no results at all?
Have you or anyone else recently moved, renamed, or deleted the file, or made any changes to permissions on the site?
Was the file created or edited using Word on the web or the desktop application?
Have you checked the search bar in SharePoint/OneDrive using keywords, as well as the “Recent” files list in Word or Office.com?

The file name is "[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed].docx" (or a similar name).

I searched in:

SharePoint search

Word Recent Files

The original SharePoint folder path

Recycle Bin

but I was unable to locate the file.

To my knowledge, I did not move, rename, or delete the file, and I am not aware of any permission changes.

The file was edited using the Word desktop application and was saved to SharePoint.

Could you please check whether the file was moved, deleted, renamed, or if there is a version/history that can be recovered?

Since the file was edited using the Word desktop application, I would recommend checking the synced SharePoint folder on your local machine (if you have enabled OneDrive sync). Sometimes the file may still exist locally even if it is not appearing on the SharePoint site.

Additionally, please check your OneDrive folder on your desktop, as files saved via Office applications can occasionally be stored or cached there.
