Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Epic’s verification messages are treated like any other external email, so the focus is on making sure Outlook.com can receive them and that the account is not blocked or misconfigured.
- Check where the code email could be going
- Confirm the Epic account is using the exact Outlook address being checked (no typos, no old alias).
- In Outlook.com, check:
- Junk Email folder
- Other/Focused tabs
- Any custom folders or rules that might move or delete messages.
- Search for the sender or subject Epic uses (e.g., “Epic Games”, “security code”) across All folders.
- Make sure Outlook.com is not blocking Epic
- In Outlook.com settings, review:
- Blocked senders and domains – remove any Epic-related addresses or domains if present.
- Safe senders and domains – add Epic’s sender domain if known.
- If a previous Epic code email was ever marked as junk, open it (if found) and mark it as Not junk so future messages are delivered to Inbox.
- Check for Microsoft-side verification or security issues If Outlook.com itself is asking for verification codes or showing security prompts, that can interfere with normal sign-in and mail use.
- If not receiving Microsoft verification codes either, follow the guidance under “I'm not getting my Microsoft account verification code”:
- Verify that the Outlook address is correctly set as security info and that there is at least one working verification method.
- Sign in to the Security basics page and select Update info to confirm or replace security info if needed.
- Avoid excessive or repetitive requests for codes, as this can cause temporary blocks on sending codes.
- If using another Microsoft email as backup, use a private/incognito window so both accounts can stay signed in while retrieving codes.
- If security info has been lost or is outdated, use “I've lost access to my Microsoft account security info” steps to add a new verification method or replace old ones. Be aware that replacing all security info can put the account into a 30‑day restricted state.
- Check for temporary blocks or traffic issues Microsoft may temporarily block or delay some messages or codes if:
- There is unusual activity or a high volume of requests.
- There is heavy compromised traffic from the current region. These issues usually resolve automatically after some time. Avoid repeatedly triggering new code requests from Epic in rapid succession.
- Test Outlook.com with another external sender
- Ask another service or a contact to send a test email to the same Outlook address.
- If other external emails arrive normally, the issue is likely on Epic’s side (sending or rate-limiting), not Outlook.
- If codes from Epic still do not arrive
- Since Outlook.com cannot control how or when Epic sends codes, contact Epic Games Support and explain that the Outlook mailbox is working but their codes are not arriving.
- If Epic offers alternate verification (e.g., backup email, device-based verification, or support-assisted recovery), use that to regain access.
- If Outlook.com itself has sign-in or verification problems
- Use Microsoft’s sign-in helper to diagnose sign-in or security issues.
- If still blocked from receiving Microsoft codes or accessing security settings, follow the account recovery guidance and, if needed, contact Microsoft Support via the official Contact Support channel for further assistance with the Outlook.com account itself (note that support cannot send codes or change account details for security reasons).
