    The preview updates are optional.

Essentially a preview of next months standard update.

If the preview fails for some reason then wait until the next month as that update will be more stable. Perhaps there is a problem with your device that is currently causing the update to fail the download.

    Hi jade jones,

You may follow this article to troubleshoot the Windows update: Windows Update Troubleshooter - Microsoft Support.

Alternatively, you may manually download the update package to install through Microsoft Update Catalog. Just enter the KB you need to Search form then choose the package right for your system.

I hope that above information is helpful to you.

The issue described is not covered in the provided context for that specific build (KB5089573 / 26200.8524) or error code 0x800705b9.

However, there are known cases where Windows 11 updates fail partway through download or installation and then roll back or report an error. For example, KB5034765 and KB5034848 could fail near the end of installation and were later fixed by a subsequent cumulative update (KB5035853). In those cases, the documented resolution was simply to install the newer cumulative update that contains the fix.

Based on the available information, the most relevant, supported action is:

    1. Wait for and install the next cumulative update that supersedes the problematic preview build.
    2. When it becomes available, install that newer update from Windows Update; it should contain fixes for prior download/installation issues, similar to how KB5035853 resolved failures in KB5034765 and KB5034848.

If the device is stuck repeatedly failing the same preview update, pausing updates until the next build and then installing that newer build is also a documented approach for Insider/preview scenarios.
