Perform these steps in order on the Windows 11 laptop:
- Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter
- Open the Get Help app and run the automated Bluetooth troubleshooter for Windows 11. It will diagnose and attempt to fix the missing/greyed-out Bluetooth toggle.
- Use this entry point if available: Run the troubleshooter in Get Help (ms-contact-support://smc-to-emerald/TroubleshootBluetooth).
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned on (and the toggle is visible)
- In quick settings: select the Network, Sound, or Battery icon on the right side of the taskbar, look for the Bluetooth quick setting, and select it to turn it on.
- In Settings: select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices, and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
- If the toggle appears briefly and disappears, continue with the next steps (driver or service issues are likely after the update).
- Turn Bluetooth off and on again from Settings
- Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Turn Bluetooth off, wait about 10 seconds, then turn Bluetooth on again.
- Try pairing the wireless mouse again.
- Check Airplane mode
- Press Windows + A to open quick settings.
- Make sure Airplane mode is turned off, because it disables Bluetooth.
- Install the latest Bluetooth drivers
- Select Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Bluetooth and select the Bluetooth adapter (it may include the word “radio”).
- Right-click the adapter and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Complete the wizard, then select Start > Power > Restart if prompted, and test Bluetooth again.
- Check for Windows updates
- Select Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install all available updates, as some Bluetooth fixes and drivers are delivered via Windows Update.
- Restart the PC when updates complete and test the Bluetooth toggle again.
- Fully power-cycle the PC (if Bluetooth still “disappears” after the update)
- Shut down the PC completely via Start > Power > Shut down.
- If it is a desktop or a laptop with removable power:
- Turn off the power supply or unplug the power cable.
- Wait several minutes (for example, 10 minutes) or hold the power button for about 30 seconds to fully discharge.
- Reconnect power and start the PC.
- After boot, return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices and check if Bluetooth is now stable and the toggle remains available.
- Re-pair the wireless mouse
- Ensure the mouse is powered on, has fresh batteries/charge, and is in pairing mode.
- Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
- Add the mouse again if it does not appear as connected.
If the Bluetooth toggle still disappears after all these steps, collect details (exact Windows 11 version, recent update KB number, and Device Manager Bluetooth entries) and contact Microsoft Support using the Get Help app so they can review the specific post-update behavior.
