Spammers adding events to my outlook calendar

Why can I not absolutely block anyone adding events to my calendars?

I have reviewed all of the help topics I can find and it seems to be an annoyance that is rooted in the legacy design of Outlook, but I am to a point in 2026 not understanding why this is still an issue and not seeing it as being a security issue that does need to be addressed. Has there been any new solutions to resolve these issues? Not a, lipstick on a pig solution but a fix the root cause.

⚠️ Why this is a security issue (Acknowledged by Microsoft)

Attackers use calendar invites to bypass email filters.

Calendar entries persist even when the email is gone (until the 2025 Defender fix).

Clicking a calendar item feels “safe,” increasing phishing success.

Deleting or declining can confirm your address is active.

    Hi Colby Self

I understand you’re dealing with spam calendar invitations that end up adding events to your Outlook calendar, and you’re looking for a true “block all” fix. I’m happy to help you.

For Outlook.com calendars, there isn’t a supported setting that guarantees nobody can send you meeting invitations in a way that ensures nothing ever reaches your mailbox/calendar. Please kindly reduce this to near‑zero using filtering + blocking + reporting.

Also, “Events from email” is a separate feature (for things like travel, deliveries, reservations) and does not stop actual meeting-invitation spam.

    Could you confirm:

    • Are the spam items arriving as meeting invitation emails in your Inbox, or appearing directly on the calendar as tentative events?
    • Can you confirm is this a personal Outlook.com mailbox or a work/school managed mailbox?

    Please follow these steps:

    1) Filter meeting-invitation spam before it reaches you

Create a mail rule in Outlook on the web to automatically delete or move meeting invitations:

    • Go to Settings (gear) > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Rules > Add new rule
    • Condition: Type = Invitation
    • Action: Delete (or Move to Junk/Deleted Items)

    2) Block repeat senders/domains so future invites go to Junk

Add the sender address or domain to your Blocked senders and domains list. Outlook will automatically move future messages from them to Junk Email.

    3) Report the invite as junk/phishing (improves filtering)

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!

    No.

The only known workarounds are for IT Managed Environments, not for personal accounts.

The available context does not describe any way to fully and absolutely block all unsolicited calendar invitations from being added to Outlook or Outlook.com calendars, nor does it document any 2026 change that removes spam calendar items at the root cause.

The context only notes related behavior and mitigations, such as:

    • Security hardening that makes received meetings read-only and blocks some external images in Outlook for Microsoft 365 after the August 8, 2023 spoofing vulnerability fix, which reduces some phishing risk but does not prevent all unwanted invites from arriving.
    • Recent and upcoming improvements like the Report button for calendar items in classic Outlook, which help classify and report junk or phishing meeting requests but do not stop all senders from creating invitations.

No documented setting or feature in the provided material guarantees a complete, global block on anyone adding events to calendars.
