How long do start up credit requests take?

Hi community!

Does anyone know how long credit requests usually take? I submitted a request for start up credits over a week ago, and they still haven't shown in my account, nor have I received a reply. I would like to use the start up credits to pay for my build costs, but they dont seem to respond.

Additionally, I cant upgrade my support tier because it says my subscription is deactivated, when the portal says my subscription is active. How do I get support if I cant upgrade my support tier?

I had a previous support ticket open and asked the support person to help me, but they haven't responded since April 13th.

I also emailed their start up support email and they havent replied either. Is anyone alive at microsoft that can help me with my request? How do i get them to respond, or get in touch with them, to get my credits and my support tier upgraded?

Hey Jacob, I’m sorry you’re getting stuck here—let’s break it down:

  1. Startup credit processing times
    • Azure for Startups ($1K offer): your initial $1,000 shows up immediately when you redeem.
    • Business verification to unlock the additional $4K (for a total of $5K) can take up to 7 business days once you submit your docs.
    • Microsoft for Startups Investor Offer (the $25K/$100K+ tier): applications are usually reviewed in about 3 business days, though it can slip if they need more info.
If it’s been a week with zero updates: • Check your email’s spam/junk folder. • Sign into the Startups portal (https://portal.startups.microsoft.com) and look under “Offers” → “Check status” to see if you’re Pending Verification or if something was declined. • If there’s no status or it still says “Not Redeemed,” grab a screenshot of the portal page for your records.
  2. “Subscription deactivated” vs. “Subscription active”
    • If you’re on an Azure Sponsorship (the underlying subscription created by the startup credit), once the credits expire or if verification is incomplete, the portal can mark it as “Deactivated.” It doesn’t mean Azure is down—it just means that sponsorship layer has lapsed.
    • Support-tier upgrades (to Standard/Premium) require a Pay-As-You-Go or Enterprise-type subscription; you can’t attach them to an expired Sponsorship.
What you can do: • In the Azure portal go to Subscriptions → locate the Sponsorship sub and click “Reactivate” or “Resolve” (if it shows a button). • Even if it’s marked deactivated, you still get free “Billing & Subscription” support. In the portal: Help + support → New support request → Issue type: “Subscription and billing” → Subscription: pick your Sponsorship sub → Request. That will get you a case number and you can escalate the deactivation or credit-apply issue.
  3. Escalation paths
    • From the Startups portal: click the “?” (Help) icon in the lower corner—this routes you directly into the Startup concierge queue.
    • Azure Portal: use the free billing support path I mentioned above.
    • If you had an existing case (since April 13), check your email for the case number or click Help + support → “All support requests” in the portal to see it, then reopen or escalate it.

Follow-up questions to help diagnose further:

  1. Which program did you enroll in—Azure for Startups ($1K offer) or Microsoft for Startups Investor Offer?
  2. Have you already redeemed the initial $1,000 credit, and do you see a “Pending verification” status?
  3. What exact error or message comes up when you try to upgrade your support plan?
  4. Do you still have your previous support case number?

Once you share those details, we can nail down exactly where it’s stuck and get an engineer to push it through.

Hope this helps! Let me know the answers to the above questions and we’ll get you unstuck.

Startup credit activation and application timelines depend on which offer is being used:

    1. Azure startup credit offer (self-service $1,000 + up to $5,000)
    • The initial $1,000 credits are applied automatically when the Azure Sponsorship subscription is created. Credits may take up to 24 hours to appear after activation.
    • After redeeming the initial $1,000, additional credits (up to $5,000) are applied after business verification is approved. Verification may take up to seven business days.
    • If credits have not appeared after these timelines, support is required to investigate.
    1. Microsoft for Startups Investor Offer
    • Applications for the investor offer are typically reviewed in about three business days.
    • Response times can be delayed if information in the application needs to be verified.

Given that more than a week has passed and there has been no response on credits or support tier issues, the next step is to open or re-open a billing/support request from the Azure portal, because billing support is free and does not require an upgraded support tier. Use the Azure portal’s “Help + support” experience (or the direct support creation link if available in the environment) and file a Billing support request tied to the affected subscription so a billing engineer can:

    • Check the status of the startup credit application/activation.
    • Confirm whether the Azure Sponsorship subscription is correctly active.
    • Investigate why the subscription appears deactivated for support-tier changes.

If the portal blocks support creation due to subscription state, follow the same pattern used in other billing issues: start a support request as “Billing,” select the subscription, and proceed past any automated solution suggestions until the full support request form is available, then submit with details of the startup credits request date, subscription ID, and screenshots of the “active vs deactivated” status.

For Microsoft for Startups Investor Offer applications, if no decision email arrives after the typical three business days and any additional verification delay, re-check the email used to apply (including spam/junk) and, if allowed by the program rules, delete and resubmit the application after the required waiting period.
