Identity validation for Artifact Signing can legitimately remain in In Progress status for some time, even after email, documents, and biometrics are completed.
Key points and actions:
- Expected processing time
• Public organization identity validation can take 1–20 business days, and possibly longer if more documentation is needed.
• During this period, the status remains In Progress until the Microsoft validation team finishes the review.
- Watch for “Action Required”
• If additional documents are needed, the status changes to Action Required and an email is sent.
• Upload requested documents in the Azure portal; there are three attempts for documentation upload.
- If validation ultimately fails
• If the failure is due to missed email verification, a new identity validation request must be created.
• If the team cannot validate the information even after extra documents, onboarding to Artifact Signing is not possible and it is recommended to delete the Artifact Signing account to avoid charges.
- If the status is stuck and you need help
• Creating additional identity validation requests for the same entity does not help and requests cannot be expedited.
• For direct assistance, open a case with Azure Support or ask on Microsoft Q&A using the artifact-signing tag.
- Impact if identity validation expires
• If identity validation is not renewed before expiration, certificate renewal stops and all signing processes associated with those certificate profiles stop. A new identity validation must then be created and associated with the profiles.
Given that email, documents, and biometrics are already completed, the next concrete step is to:
• Monitor the status and email for any Action Required updates, and
• If it has been longer than the documented processing window or appears stuck, contact Azure Support for investigation rather than creating another identity validation for the same entity.
