Hi Pauline Fritz,
If the Power (Shut down / Restart / Sleep) button is missing from the Start Menu on your Windows 11 laptop, this is typically caused by a system policy or power configuration setting that is currently restricting access to these options.
Please try the checking steps below to restore the Power button:
1, Check System Policy Setting
- Press Windows + R, type
regedit - Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer - Locate
NoClose - If found: Double‑click and set Value data = 0
- If not found:
- Right‑click > New > DWORD (32‑bit) Value
- Name it:
NoClose - Set Value data = 0
2, Restart Windows Explorer
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc
- Locate Windows Explorer
- Right‑click > Restart
3, Restore Default Power Settings
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator
- Run:
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
As a temporary workaround, you can still shut down your device by pressing Windows + X > U > U. After completing the steps above, please check if the Power icon has returned to the Start Menu.
