Scheduling and managing events using Outlook.com calendar
Hello hrp, and thank you for posting to Microsoft Q&A. I understand how concerning it is to see scam invites appearing on your personal schedule, and I appreciate you sharing your concern here.
Please follow these steps to safely remove the invites and prevent them from returning:
Step 1: Safely Delete Existing Spam
It is important to note that if you click "Decline," Outlook sends a response back to the sender. This confirms to the scammer that your email address is active and monitored, which can actually lead to receiving more spam.
- To remove it: Right-click the spam event in your calendar and select Delete or Remove from calendar. If prompted to send a response to the organizer, always choose Do not send a response.
- To report it: If you are using Outlook on the web, you can right-click the event and select Report > Junk or Report > Phishing.
Step 2: Stop Outlook from Auto-Adding Invites
You can change your settings to prevent Outlook from automatically processing summaries that scammers often use to bypass filters.
- Log into your email at outlook.live.com on a web browser.
- Click the Gear icon (Settings) in the top right corner.
- Navigate to Calendar > Events from email.
- You will see options for events like flights, hotels, and package deliveries. Change the drop-down menus to Don't show event summaries in email or on my calendar.
- Next, go to the Invitations (or "Events and invitations") section within the Calendar settings.
- Look for the setting to Delete invitations and responses that have been updated to help keep your inbox and calendar clean after you have addressed an item.
I hope this information helps you clear your calendar and stop these interruptions. Please let me know if you need further assistance or if these steps worked for you.
