Scam job offer through Teams

I want to report a scam job offer that was done through Teams and remove the chat. It seems that it could be a direct path from the scammer to my Microsoft account and laptop.

I did find a Q&A from another Teams user asking how to report the same issue, very likely the same scammer posing as UKG, Inc.

I followed the directions in the answer from Teams, which should have taken me to an option to Report the scam, but I only have the option to Block User when clicking on the 3 dots in the pop up.

I am hesitant to click on the block option because I do not want to lose the chat without knowing it's been reported. Is the Block option and the Report option the same function?

Hello

The report option needs to be done in the chat, when you hover over any message sent by this user > three dots.

You said you've removed the chat?

How is UKG currently listed in your Teams? Another option is go here: https://msrc.microsoft.com/report/ and use Outlook Spam to report it.

Block and Report are not the same function.

In Teams there are two separate capabilities:

  1. Report a malicious or inappropriate message
    • In a chat or channel, hover over the message.
    • Select More options > Report this message.
    • Choose a reason, for example:
      • Security concern – spam, phishing, or malicious content
      • Inappropriate – harassment, violence, nudity, or disturbing content
    • Select Report.
This sends a report to the organization’s security/compliance systems but does not remove the chat for the sender or the recipient.
  2. Block a user
    • From the chat list, select the chat, then More options > Block (or use the block option in the pop‑up).
    • This stops further messages from that person, but it is not the same as reporting.
    • Blocking does not itself submit the message as spam/phishing/inappropriate content.

Because only Block is visible in the pop‑up in this scenario, reporting is likely not enabled or not exposed in that tenant or Teams Free environment. In that case:

  • Use Block to prevent further contact from the scammer.
  • The existing chat is not described as being automatically deleted by blocking; blocking primarily affects future messages.
  • If the chat is a new request (in Chat requests), choosing Delete chat from that screen can remove it and optionally block the initiator, but that still is separate from reporting.

For additional protection against phishing and impersonation in Teams, verify external senders carefully and only accept chats from people that are trusted.
