Trying to update Planner tasks via task conversation on Teams and repeatedly receiving failed to send notifications

Myself and my team repeatedly receive a failed to send notification (attached) when trying to update certain Planner tasks via the task conversation button when using Teams. We are able to update some tasks on Plans but others receive the failed to send notification. I have checked Plan permissions and all affected Plans are shared to the correct groups. Users are assigned to the tasks they are trying to update. There is no obvious reason why users shouldn't be able to update the tasks.

    Hi @Daniel-Vo ,

The issue isn't uploading attachments, the issue is being able to add updates to the task conversation at all.

    • The issue has been happening over the past two weeks. It only seems to happen on certain tasks within certain plans. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it as other tasks within the plans can be updated without issue.
    • Affected users all have Premium licenses.
    • It only seems to happen in specific plans.
    • It happens across both desktop and web Teams.

    Dear Ryan Guest,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for taking the time to share the details about the issue. From what you described, it appears that you and your team are facing difficulties uploading attachments within the Task Conversation section in Planner. I understand how disruptive this can be, especially when your team relies on task-based communication and collaboration. To help us identify the cause as accurately as possible and determine whether this is related to licensing, platform behavior, or a potential service issue, we kindly ask for a bit more information from your side.

To help us investigate this further, could you please confirm the following:

    • Are you able to post comments without attachments normally?
    • When did this issue start to happen? What kind of files is your team trying to upload when the error occurs?
    • Does every affected user have the required Planner Premium license? Since Task Conversations rely on Teams integration, this feature works only with the Premium plan.
    • Does the issue occur in all Premium Planner plans, or only specific ones?
    • Does the problem happen across all Teams platforms, including both the web version and the desktop app?

Your responses to these questions will help us narrow down whether the issue is related to user licensing, configuration, platform-specific behavior, or a wider service limitation. Once we have this information, we can guide you more effectively on the next steps or possible troubleshooting methods.

Please share any updates when you can. We look forward to hearing from you so we can continue assisting you and help resolve this issue as smoothly as possible.
