Hello,

Today I got a notification from Gmail that someone had removed my phone number from my Microsoft account, when I tried to log in to check what was going on I realized that I couldn't. After entering my original Gmail, I was met my a text saying that my account can't be found.

I have tried multiple different ways to get my account back but they all come back with ''The Microsoft account you've entered does not exist.''

Is there even anything i could do?

Hello. Unfortunately, the chances of having your account restored are very low. In most cases, the attacker fully deletes the account after taking it over, which is typically irreversible. I haven’t seen any confirmed cases of accounts being successfully recovered. That said, you can still try submitting the account takeover form and see how Microsoft responds.

For this case, please use the following form. Fill it out carefully and provide an alternate email address as your contact method:

https://support.xbox.com/forms/recover-your-microsoft-account

One section that many people unintentionally overlook is “Alternate emails or phone numbers associated with the account.” It’s important to complete this section, as it asks for anything that was ever connected to the account in the past, even if it’s no longer active. Examples include:

  • A previous recovery email address
  • An old phone number used for verification
  • Another email account that ever received security codes from this Outlook account

Adding as much verified historical information there as you can gives Microsoft more signals to confirm ownership. Be as accurate as possible. Guessing, especially on security questions, lowers the chance of approval.

After submitting, watch for an email from [[email protected]] with a case number that starts with SIR. Be sure to check the Junk and Spam folders.

Note: This recovery method is entirely different from the standard account recovery form and is designed specifically for compromised accounts. Even though it appears to be from Xbox, it works for your Microsoft account as well.
