Azure DevOps Analytics broken after accidently deleting a Project

Hi,

A colleage accidently deleted a project in DevOps and restored it immediately from the recycle bin. Unfortunately it had some side effects where most of them could be fixed.

The only issue we have now, is that the Analytics is no longer showing data on Area Paths.

Is there a way to re-initialize the Analytics data?

Hi SDR,

Thanks for the confirmation. Glad the issue got resolved.

Solution:

As per the update received from the engineering team, there is no supported way to manually re-initialize or rebuild Azure DevOps Analytics data (including Area Path analytics) after a project has been deleted and restored from the recycle bin. Microsoft Support is also unable to re-initialize or repair Analytics views or recover historical Area Path data for a restored project.

This appears to have been a transient issue. As of today, Analytics is once again showing Area Path data correctly, and the issue seems to have resolved itself without any manual intervention.

Hope this helps!

If the Analytics data is not showing after restoring a deleted project in Azure DevOps, you may need to re-initialize the Analytics service. However, it's important to note that if Analytics was disabled or removed prior to the deletion, the historical data would be lost and cannot be restored. Here are some steps you can take:

    1. Check if Analytics is enabled: Ensure that the Analytics service is enabled for your Azure DevOps organization. If it was disabled, re-enable it to start repopulating the data.
    2. Repopulate Analytics data: If Analytics is enabled, it may take some time for the data to repopulate. You can also try pausing and then resuming the Analytics service to trigger a refresh of the data.
    3. Verify Area Paths: Make sure that the Area Paths are correctly configured and that there are no issues with the project settings that could affect Analytics data.

If the problem persists, you may want to consult the Azure DevOps documentation for further troubleshooting steps or consider reaching out to Microsoft support for assistance.
