Outlook starting error - repair/reinstall/reset doesn't fix

Outlook on an Acer Windows laptop is constantly giving this message when starting the app: "Outlook is having trouble starting. How about starting with essential only?"

Regardless of if Yes or No is clicked, it will open, but will not then accept the log in. I have tried the repair function, the reset function, and uninstalled/reinstalled the app. The PC is regularly shut down, and a reboot makes no difference. Office 16 is installed, but not activated with a subscription; however this Outlook app is installed directly from the Windows Store.

The PC says it is up to date as at today, 11 Dec 2025.

How can we fix this?

    New Outlook for Windows - Clear your Local State and Account Authentication cache.

    Deletes all local configuration files and cache. Resets the application to a first-run state. You will have to add back all of your email accounts and go thru all of your email account authentication steps again.. (Does not touch your Outlook data. e.g. email, contacts, calendar).

    1 -- Close any running New Outlook for Windows instances. (Make sure it's not hiding in your Taskbar).

    2 -- Open a Windows Run dialog using either the Windows Logo Key + r (Win+r), or from the Start menu search for "Run".

    4 -- In the Run dialog box type, or copy/paste, the command %LocalAppData%\Microsoft into the "Open:" text box and click [OK].

    4 -- In the Windows Explorer that opens, right-click the Olk folder and Rename it to Olk_OLD, right click and rename the OneAuth folder to OneAuth_OLD.
