Hi there,

I have encountered a problem after restarting my mac. When i try to save a Powerpoint i am working on i receive the message The document “ ” could not be saved.

Here is what i have tried to solve it:

  • deleting and reinstalling office 365
  • saving the powerpoint to a new location
  • saving the powerpoint as a ppt instead of pptx
  • copying slides into a new powerpoint and saving that
  • logging out of my account and back in

i tried to open older projects to see if they have the same issue and the same thing happens. If i try to add anything and then save i get the same error.

thanks so much in advance for any ideas!

    Hi there Marie,

Thanks for reaching out. This error on Mac usually points to a permissions or cache issue rather than the file itself. Since you’ve already tried reinstalling Office and saving in different formats and locations, here are the most effective next steps:

Clear the Office Document Cache Corrupted cache often causes save failures.

    1. Close all Office apps.
    2. In Finder, click Go > Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Containers.
    3. Open these folders: com.microsoft.Powerpoint, com.microsoft.Word, com.microsoft.Excel.
    4. Inside each, go to Data/Library/Caches and delete the contents.
    5. Restart PowerPoint and try saving again.

    Let me know what happens.

    Regards,

    Rez
