I have been using the same email from the French provider free.fr since 25 years, and always used outlook. initially "pop" and since 10 years now IMAP. I have changed my computer and did a nwe installation of outlook with windows 11.

I cannot anymore manage to connect. I have checked all help section from my provider and always same problem with outlook stating that it cannot manage the smtp.

eventhough, I have chosen the startssl setup and Port 587 or 465 as stated

To troubleshoot the issue with connecting your free.fr email address in Outlook, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check SMTP Settings: Ensure that you are using the correct SMTP settings for your free.fr email. Typically, for SMTP, the settings should be:
      • Server: smtp.free.fr
      • Port: 587 (or 465 for SSL)
      • Encryption: STARTTLS (for port 587) or SSL (for port 465)
    2. Enable Basic Authentication: If you are using POP or IMAP with SMTP, ensure that Basic authentication is enabled for your account. If your provider has disabled it, you will need to enable it temporarily to connect.
    3. Check Outlook Configuration: Make sure that your Outlook is configured correctly for IMAP. You can refer to the settings provided by your email provider to ensure that everything matches.
    4. Firewall/Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block the connection. Ensure that Outlook is allowed through your firewall and that your antivirus is not interfering with the connection.
    5. Test Connection: You can use the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant to help diagnose and fix issues with Outlook. This tool can help identify connectivity problems.
    6. Safe Mode: Try starting Outlook in safe mode to see if a third-party add-in is causing the issue. You can do this by running outlook.exe /safe from the Run dialog.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your email provider for further assistance, as they may have specific settings or requirements for connecting to their SMTP server.
