How to resolve an error with "Send/Receive" action on outlook folders

I have an old calendar entry which generates an error when my outlook folders synchronise. The error message indicates that the appointment lacks a "DTEND" with error code (0x0004003D). Can anyone advise how to remove this? Even though I click on the error message and delete the original appointment the error keeps recurring...

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi @Mike Hodgson

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on the information you provided, I understand that you are encountering a persistent "Send/Receive" synchronization issue (code 0x0004003D) caused by an old calendar entry that is missing the "DTEND" property. Even though you have tried deleting the specific appointment via the error dialog, the issue keeps recurring.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve this:

-Check and Remove Internet Calendar Subscriptions: This error is often caused by external calendar feeds (ICS files) rather than native Outlook items.

-Use the Calendar Checking Tool (CalCheck): Microsoft provides a specific tool for this type of issue. It scans your calendar for corrupted items (like those missing metadata) and moves them to a separate folder so you can review them.

-Please update and Repair Classic Outlook:

However, please note that if the cause is a specific ICS feed (Internet Calendar) that is structurally incorrect (i.e., the source file provided by the host is missing the "DTEND" tag), the issue might persist as long as you are subscribed to that specific feed. In that case, you would need to contact the provider of that calendar to fix the source.

To resolve the error related to the "Send/Receive" action in Outlook caused by an old calendar entry missing a "DTEND" value, you can try the following steps:

    1. Use the Calendar Checking Tool for Outlook (CalCheck): This tool can help identify and fix issues with calendar items. You can download it from the Microsoft website, run it, and review the flagged items.
      • After running CalCheck, if it identifies the problematic appointment, you can remove it directly from the report.
    2. Clear Offline Items: If the issue persists, you can clear offline items from the affected calendar:
      • Right-click the affected calendar, select Properties, then choose Clear Offline Items and confirm.
      • After that, select Send / Receive > Update Folder to download the items again from the server.
    3. Use Command Line Switches: You can also try running Outlook with specific command line switches to clean up reminders or reset folders:
      • Close Outlook, then press Start, type outlook.exe /cleanreminders in the search box, and press Enter.
      • Alternatively, you can use outlook.exe /resetfolders to reset the folder structure.
    4. Manual Deletion via MFCMAPI: If the above methods do not work, you can use the MFCMAPI tool to manually delete the problematic calendar entry:
      • Download MFCMAPI from GitHub, open it, and navigate to the Reminders folder to locate and delete the corrupted appointment.

After performing these steps, check if the error continues to occur during synchronization. If it does, further investigation into the specific calendar entry may be necessary.
