Windows Security won't load? (Event ID: 1002)

I don't know when this started occurring, but I was recently reminded of Windows Defender/Security so, I decided to open it to see the status of it, but it wouldn't load? It would show the logo for the application, but then it would hang and close within a few minutes. I've tried everything from a DISM and sfc in command prompts, powershell, reg edits, windows security app settings, in-place repair, nothing seem to fix it? It's running in the background, but I just cant seem to open it.

Here's what it says in Event Viewer:

The program SecHealthUI.exe version 10.0.26100.1 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Hi, thank you for that information. In this case, the last method we can do is a reset and keep your files. However, this process will delete all apps. If you are okay with that, kindly follow the steps below:

Warning: Apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Microsoft Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

    To reset the PC:

Go to Settings> System>Recovery options at the end.

Under Recovery options, click Reset PC.

Click Keep my files> Click Cloud Download and follow the prompt.

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

This happens when there is a corrupted file in the Windows Defender folder or a reconfiguration is needed. First, you need to check if you have a work or school account:

Open Settings > Click Accounts > Click Access work or school, then disconnect the account there. If you have no account or are already disconnected, and you have the same issue, follow the steps below:

Note: Before doing the steps, I suggest completely uninstalling the third-party anti-virus first.

    Method 1. Reinstall Windows Defender

Open the registry, then go to:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender

Then delete the Windows Defender folder, restart the PC, and recheck it.

Note: If the issue persists, and since you have done an in-place upgrade, I recommend creating a new user:

Go to Settings > Accounts > Other users > Add account

Follow the prompts to create an account.

Then go to Settings > Accounts > Other users > Select the account you created > Click "Change account type" then select "Administrator"

Restart the PC and log in to the new account

It seems that you're experiencing issues with Windows Security (Windows Defender) not loading properly, and you've already tried several troubleshooting steps without success. The error message you provided indicates that the application SecHealthUI.exe has stopped interacting with Windows, which can often be related to issues with permissions or conflicts with other software.

Here are some steps you can take to further troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Check for Third-Party Security Software: If you have any third-party antivirus or security software installed, it may conflict with Windows Defender. Consider uninstalling or disabling it temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
    2. Review Event Viewer Logs: Since you have already checked the Event Viewer, look for any additional errors or warnings that may provide more context about the issue. Focus on logs related to Windows Defender or application errors.
    3. Reset Windows Security App: You can try resetting the Windows Security app to its default settings. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, find Windows Security, click on it, and select Advanced options. From there, you can reset the app.
    4. Re-register Windows Security: You can re-register the Windows Security app using PowerShell. Open PowerShell as an administrator and run the following command:
         Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.SecHealthUI | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$_.InstallLocation\AppXManifest.xml"}

    5. Check Group Policy Settings: If your system is part of a domain, Group Policy settings may be affecting Windows Security. You can check the Group Policy settings related to Windows Defender to ensure they are not preventing it from running.
    6. Perform a Clean Boot: Boot your computer in a clean boot state to see if background services or startup programs are causing the issue. This can help isolate the problem.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.
