My microphone stopped working, while I was using it to call with my friend, I don't know what to do, since I checked the microphone is not muted, I'm not sure what to do, None of my apps can detected my Microphone and my laptop version is HP Laptop 15s-fq1xxx. Any idea's on how to fix it? this happened a few years ago and this year it randomly fixed itself.

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

Have you noticed any changes before the issue starts? Have you installed any hardware or software that may trigger the issue? It seems that there is an incompatibility with the Microphone and Audio driver. Moreover, kindly follow the steps below for us to sort out the issue:

    Method 1. Run Audio troubleshooter:

Press the Windows Key + R then type in:

    msdt.exe /id AudioPlaybackDiagnostic

Then hit OK and follow the prompt to run the Audio troubleshooter.

Method 2. Roll back the Microphone driver:

-Press the Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

-Expand the Audio inputs and Outputs

    -Look for your Microphone

    -Right-click and click Update Driver

-Select Browse my computer for drivers

-Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer

-Choose an old driver or another driver name, then select it and hit next until it installs.

Method 3. Roll back Audio driver:

-Press the Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

-Expand the Sound, video and game controller

-Look for Realtek (R) Audio or High Definition audio

    -Right-click and click Update Driver

-Select Browse my computer for drivers

-Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer

-Choose an old driver or other driver name, then select it and hit next until it installs.

Note: If the issue persists, please download and install a Microphone and Audio driver from your manufacturer's website or run a system restore.

If your built-in microphone is not being detected on your HP Laptop 15s-fq1xxx, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check Device Manager: Ensure that your microphone is enabled in the Device Manager. You can access this by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager." Look for "Audio inputs and outputs" and check if your microphone is listed there.
    2. Check Microphone Settings: Go to your sound settings by right-clicking the sound icon in the taskbar and selecting "Sounds." Under the "Recording" tab, ensure that your microphone is set as the default device and is not disabled.
    3. Permissions: Make sure that the applications you are using have permission to access the microphone. You can check this in the Privacy settings under "Microphone."
    4. Update Drivers: Sometimes, outdated or corrupted drivers can cause issues. You can update your audio drivers through Device Manager by right-clicking on your microphone and selecting "Update driver."
    5. Check for Hardware Issues: If the microphone is still not detected, it could be a hardware issue. Try using an external microphone to see if it works. If it does, the built-in microphone may need servicing.
    6. Restart Your Device: A simple restart can sometimes resolve detection issues.
    7. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure your Windows is up to date, as updates can fix bugs related to hardware detection.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to consider contacting HP support for further assistance.
