Does anyone know what this is? More importantly, how to banish it.

User's imageIt doesn't respond to any type of click, it does nothing & hovering on it produces no tip. It is a persistent & annoying distraction.

Just applied the 16.103.1 update which has removed the Copilot logo which was appearing in the lower right corner of the document window.

I'm using Classic 365 which doesb't include Copilot but perhaps the update will provide relief for other versions as well.

The update is available to those who use the Current Channel (Preview) option but should be released to everyone a bit later this month.

That's the Copilot logo. I have not yet been "blessed" with it. I know you can get rid of it with a Microsoft 365 Classic subscription, but if you got your subscription from Microsoft in return for answering questions, I believe you're stuck with it.
