Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Dear DonnetteBerryMolock-8723,
Thank you for posting your question to the Microsoft Q&A forum.
What you have is often called a "dual account." This happens when your single @outlook.com email address is being used as a username for two separate identities in the Microsoft cloud. This is why you are given the choice ("Personal" or "Work/School") when you log in.
The reason you might be seeing a login failure is that when you get to the login page, you must explicitly tell it to log in as the "Work or School" account. If you just log in normally, it will default to your "Personal" account, which has no access to that portal.
Here are the steps to fix this by leaving the guest organization:
- Open a New InPrivate window (in Microsoft Edge) or a New Incognito window (in Google Chrome). This is a crucial step to ensure you are not signed in to any other account.
- Go directly to this specific link: https://myaccount.microsoft.com/organizations
- Type in your @outlook.com email address and click Next.
- You will see a screen asking you to choose. This is the most important step: Select "Work or school account".
- Type in your normal @outlook.com password when prompted.
- This should log you into the Work/School portal and land you on the "Organizations" page.
- You will see your "Home" organization and "Other organizations you collaborate with"
- Find the organization you want to remove in the "Other organizations you collaborate with" list and click the "Leave" button next to it.
- Confirm you want to leave.
After you successfully "Leave" the organization, it can take 24-72 hours for the link to be fully broken. After that time, the "Work or school account" option should finally be gone when you log in.
I hope these steps help you resolve the dual-account issue. Please let us know if you run into any trouble. If you have any questions or need further assistance on how these accounts operate, feel free to reach out. I am here to help.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
