The borders on tables in Microsoft Word keep disappearing for all people in my company

For all users at our business, when we open up Word files with tables within them, the borders of the tables disappear and we have to manually add them back. Does anyone know why this happens and what we can do to fix this?

Found this statement it has been fixed on Nov 5 - but no info on build #, release plans, etc. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/in-a-coauthored-word-document-table-formats-get-corrupted-1e58f9a1-df7a-48be-b82c-d76131dc2319

That page was updated on November 13. They are still working on it.

    Hi @Jonathan Khan,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding that the borders on tables in Microsoft Word keep disappear. I’d like to ask a few quick questions to better understand your situation and assist you more effectively:

    • Is this happening with all Word documents or only specific ones?
    • Are the borders missing in Print Preview or just on-screen?
    • Does the issue persist when opening the document in Word Online?
    • Where is the file saved on OneDrive, SharePoint, or locally?
    • Have you check if there anyone who might have modified the file?
    • If the file is share for other user to edit it could you check the history version to see what the user have edit in the file?  You should turn on the Track changes for everyone.
User's image You should be able to track who make changes to the table. If someone add something to the table or if someone format the table it will show the history.

    • If possible, could you please share screenshots of the issue and the version history?  Feel free to blur or hide any personal or sensitive information in the screenshots.

Thank you again for your time and understanding. While my initial response may not resolve the issue immediately, I’d like to gather more details about your situation so I can assist you more effectively.

I really appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response!

    @Jonathan Khan

Does the issue still occur if you hold down the SHIFT key while opening the document?

We are having the same issue and have narrowed it down to this scenario:

    • Word Documents are stored in SharePoint
    • User 1 opens in Word application, table styles are present
    • User 2 opens in Word in browser and selects to edit the document in Word app
    • The switch from browser to Word app appears to remove the table styles with borders and replaces with no borders style

    Hi @Jonathan Khan,

I'm sorry for the delay reply,

I see that a lot of users have the same issue as you are having. However, there hasn’t been an official announcement or fix from Microsoft yet.

I recommend encouraging affected end users to submit feedback and upvote existing feedback at Word · Community

As forum moderators, we don’t have access to the detailed logs or backend systems needed to troubleshoot this effectively due to privacy and security constraints. Our product team is in charge of the site, and they constantly check customer reviews and feedback, The higher votes, the more attention the related team will pay on. And a lot of features are developed and improved based on customer feedback.

How to Submit Your Suggestion to Microsoft:.

    1.Visit the Microsoft Feedback Portal:

-Go to: Word · Community then Send Feedback and Describe your proposal in detail

Describe your suggestion clearly for example:

“The borders on tables in Microsoft Word keep disappearing when the file is share on a SharePoint site"

Alternatively you could also give feedback in Microsoft Word.

Go to Word select the option that I point out
