I have a Noontec hard drive that isn't recognised on W11 file manager. How can I access it to determine what data exists there. The light comes on ok, and the cables seem fine. This is what I see on my laptop. I assume the bottom one is the old hard drive. What is this telling me? I don't get a beep or anything else and keen to see if there is any data contained therein. thanks, RussUser's image

Hi,

Thanks for the clear explanation, Russ, and the screenshot. If your Noontec hard drive’s light turns on but it doesn’t appear in File Explorer, open Disk Management by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Disk Management to see if it’s listed as "Disk 1" or similar. If it shows as Unallocated or Not Initialized, don’t format or initialize it yet as this could erase data; instead, use a free recovery tool like MiniTool or EaseUS to scan for files. If it appears but has no drive letter, right-click it, select Change Drive Letter and Paths, then add a letter so it shows in File Explorer. If it’s missing entirely, check Device Manager under "Disk drives" to see if it’s detected; if not, try a different USB port, cable, or another computer. This helps determine whether the issue is with the drive’s enclosure, power connection, or internal hardware.

Kind regards,
