Interesting - I'm experiencing very long boot BIOS times (more than 30 seconds) on my Surface Go 3 too. This is a recent issue that did not happen before.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi,
Recently, I’ve been experiencing very long booting times on my Surface Go 3. I tried repairing Windows and even reinstalling the entire system, but the booting was still much slower than before. Finally, I decided to perform a full recovery using the Surface Recovery Image, but without success. These are my latest boot times.
I have all latest updates (for example UEFI 16.106.143). And furthermore, I think the computer is stuck on the first loading screen with the Windows Logo (maybe something with the UEFI ?), booting on the second loading screen with the Win logo and rotating circle is quick as ever. Is there anything I can do?

2026-04-11T04:24:04.08+00:00 I downgrade the uefi firmware in ubuntu,follow R X's answer,it works,now the go3 start quickly.The latest uefi contans bugs make you go3 slower.When i downgrade the uefi to 11.200.143,the slow-start problem is gone,just like pic below.

Steve Williams 55 Reputation points2025-11-05T10:52:34.9433333+00:00 Unfortunately it's my experience too, for a few weeks now it has been soooo slow to start. A reset hasn't helped. Next step would be to wipe it clean and try again but I suspect we're being nudged down the obsolescence pathway.

The other day you posted about an issue upgrading to an EDU SKU and I advised you to use the Recovery image (which you stated you did). Did you now subsequently upgrade to EDU or are you still on Windows Home? Are you signing in with a Microsoft Account, and if not, are you signing in with an Enterprise or edu account?
Do you have any peripherals (dock, monitor, mouse, etc. connected?

Thank you for your help last time. Yes, I've updated to Edu after I installed Home and now, I am on Edu version, however the issue occurred with the Home version as well. I've checked too many times.
I am afraid that there's something with the latest update and this has affected booting. Booting time was never the issue and now, the computer permemamently loading very slow despite various attempts of recovery... I don't have any peripherals connected besides the surface keyboard.
The device belongs to me, I've bought it new via the Microsoft Store and I use a personal account to sign in.
The photo shows screen in which the majority of time the device spends when booting. Last 10 second are with the rotary circle below the Windows logo (so I assume when the system is loading).

2025-10-31T18:56:47.44+00:00 There are multiple layers here. If this occurred after reimaging to Home, but before Windows Updates, it could be firmware or hardware related. You feel it might be update related. The last documented update (September) had the following:
Did this start after that update?
If you restart in Safe mode without networking, is it equally slow to boot?

2025-10-31T20:29:42.9366667+00:00 This is beginning to sound like software/drivers. Try safe mode WITH networking. If still 30 seconds or so, you need to look at start up apps, services, etc.

linko 123 10 Reputation points2025-11-08T14:34:43.37+00:00 I had a similar slowdown issue on my Surface device, and in my case the problem came from UEFI settings that were stuck after a Windows repair. Resetting UEFI to default, disabling Fast Boot, and then rebuilding the boot files with “bootrec /fixboot” and “bootrec /rebuildbcd” finally brought the startup time back to normal.
If the delay happens before the rotating circle appears, it usually means the firmware is waiting too long to initialize hardware. Removing all peripherals, resetting UEFI, and forcing a clean boot path can help.
