Hi Kevin Burton,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum! I understand how frustrating it can be when an update interrupts your normal workflow, especially when you can’t log in.
After certain Microsoft updates, Windows may ask you to set up a new PIN using Windows Hello. Occasionally, the keyboard driver doesn’t load in time, making it seem like the keyboard is locked.
Here's what you can do right now to fix this issue:
1 - Use the On-Screen Keyboard
- On the sign-in screen, click the Accessibility icon (bottom-right) → On-Screen Keyboard.
- Use your mouse to type the verification code or PIN.
2 - Switch to Password Sign-In
- Click Sign-in options → select the key icon (Password).
- Enter your account password and skip the PIN setup for now. You can add a PIN later under Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
3 - If the PIN setup keeps looping
- Restart your device into Safe Mode with Networking (Shift + Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → press 5).
- Sign in with your password, then remove and re-add your PIN from Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
If none of these steps work, please reach out to our official support site so we can assist you further:
- Go to Microsoft support.
- Include details on your device type, screenshot or description of the error message and steps you’ve already tried.
I look forward to receiving your update. Let me know which solution works for you or if your problem persists and you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment". Thanks for your effort.
