Hello Microsoft Support Team,

I’m reaching out because I am the only Global Administrator for our Microsoft 365 / Entra ID tenant, and I am currently locked out of my admin account due to multi-factor authentication (MFA) issues.

Whenever I try to sign in, I receive the following error:

Error Code: 500121
Request Id: 944bfb5d-9ff5-46c6-9a53-504308fc1200
Correlation Id: 24f7f035-f07c-48cf-9bdc-1a0a5619605c
Timestamp: 2025-10-14T13:52:35Z

I am unable to complete MFA because my Microsoft Authenticator app will not allow me to add the account back, and no other verification methods are available. As the only admin, I cannot reset my own MFA settings or create a Temporary Access Pass.

Details:

  • My role: Global Administrator
  • Tenant domain: nelsonmortgageco.com
  • Primary admin email: ******@nelsonmortgageco.com
  • Approximate time of last successful login: 10-14-2025 9:00am
  • Issue began: 10-13-2025 (purchased email)

Error appears immediately after MFA prompt when logging in via portal.office.com or entra.microsoft.com

  • Device tried: Edge, Chrome, Iphone

I need assistance restoring admin access to the tenant. Please verify my ownership and reset or disable the MFA requirement temporarily so I can regain access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and reconfigure authentication.

I am available for identity verification and can provide domain verification, billing information, or any other details required to confirm ownership.

Please treat this as urgent, as the organization’s operations depend on my access to manage licenses and user accounts.

Thank you for your help

Hello Jenny,

The error code 500121 strongly indicates a failure during the authentication claim process, often tied to a misconfigured or unavailable MFA method, exactly as you've described.

You must use the Microsoft 365 Admin Account Recovery tool. This is a self-service tool specifically designed for this exact scenario.

Immediate Action Required: Use the Admin Account Recovery Tool This process is designed to verify your identity and tenant ownership without requiring you to sign in.

Go to the Recovery Portal: Navigate to the following URL from any internet-connected device: https://aka.ms/cloud-admin-recovery

Complete the Verification Steps: The tool will guide you through a series of automated steps to prove you are the tenant owner. This will likely include:

Providing your tenant domain (nelsonmortgageco.com).

Uploading a .txt file` to your domain's root website to prove DNS control, or modifying a DNS TXT record.

Providing billing details, such as the Azure Subscription ID or the last four digits of the credit card on file.

Regain Access: Upon successful verification, the tool will grant you temporary access to create a new emergency admin account or reset the MFA on your existing account.

If the Automated Tool Fails If the automated recovery process is unsuccessful or cannot verify your information, you must open a direct support ticket with Microsoft.

Call Microsoft Support: Use the telephone number for your region. For the United States, you can call 1-800-642-7676.

Explain the Situation Clearly: State immediately: "I am the sole Global Administrator locked out of my Microsoft 365 tenant due to MFA failure. I need to open a critical-severity ticket for tenant admin account recovery."

Be Prepared to Verify: The phone agent will ask you to verify tenant ownership. Have any information ready, such as your company's address, the full credit card number used for billing, or the support ticket number if you have one.

This is the only official and supported channel to regain access. Do not spend further time trying methods that require you to be signed in, as they will not work.

I hope this direct path allows you to quickly regain control of your tenant. The Admin Account Recovery portal is your fastest and most effective option.

Best regards, VP
